Dr. Fatma Ülkü Afifi-Yazar is Prof. of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry. She obtained her Mag. Pharm. from the University of Vienna (Austria) and Dr. nat. sci. from ETH Zurich (Switzerland). In 1982 Dr. Afifi was appointed as the first faculty staff at the School of Pharmacy, The University of Jordan and in the following years was directly involved in the establishment of this first School of Pharmacy in Jordan. Later (1991-2002) she served as the Dean of the school after being head of the department for several years. She has a long academic career and is an active researcher in the fields of natural products chemistry and traditional medicine. Her main interests are isolation, identification and structure determination of plant constituents and biological activity of the natural products (anticancer, hypoglycemic, antilipidemic activities). She was involved in a big number of research projects granted institutionally (The University of Jordan), governmentally (Ministry of Higher Education/Jordan), internationally (Support to Research and Technological development & Innovation Initiative & Strategies in Jordan (SRTD) Project) and European Union (FP7). She is the author/co-author of more than 130 publications in peer reviewed international/regional journals and some chapters in scientific books. She has teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervised many postgraduate students (PhD and MSc) and was a member of national and international examination committees for postgraduate students. Dr. Afifi was a member of the Jordan FDA Committee for Medicinal Plants and Natural Products, member of Technical Accreditation Committee of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, member of the Accreditation Committees of the Private Faculties of Pharmacy and is associate editor and/or a member in the editorial board of several pharmaceutical journals (Jordan Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy Times/Middle East Edition, BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, The Open Complementary Medicine etc..) Dr. Afifi received the "Distinguished Researcher Award" from The University of Jordan for three successive years; 2011, 2012 and 2013 and the most prestigious award of the Arabic World "Shoman Foundation Award 2015 for Health Sciences/Medicinal Plants".

Ning-Sung Yang is a Distinguished Professor and Distinguished Research Fellow of Academia Sinica and the associated universities in Taipei, Taiwan. His major research interests include gene-based cancer vaccines, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer phytochemicals, and functional genomics studies of dendritic cells. He has helped the development of gene gun technology and pioneered its application to mammalian transgene experimental systems and gene therapy approaches. After thirty years of a research career in USA, Dr. Yang went back to his home town in Taiwan and established the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Center in Academia Sinica, Taipei, which is now recognized for medicinal herb and crop plant research. He was elected in 2006 as a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS, USA). He has published more than 160 research papers, and obtained 14 USA patents.

Mohammed Hmamouchi has obtained PhD in Phytochemistry (1986, Laval University in Canada). After his graduation, he gets research and teaching positions in the faculty of medicine and pharmacy in Rabat. In 1999, he has published his first main book; it is the fruit of several years of research and reflection, on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Morocco. In 2004 he was appointed by Moroccan government to develop and implement national policies on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. He oversaw build and equipment. He leads, as a Director, of a First National Institute on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (African and Arab). In 2011 he became President of the Arab Federation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. He was also the focal point of different international conventions and agreements, and coordinator of national and international MAP networks (Tempus: European Union Projects). He managed several research projects, contracts and cooperation agreement. He assisted business creation, cooperatives for the production of MAP and product development opportunities. He has worked with many international institutions and companies in over 30 countries. He is a member of several professional bodies and has received many grants and awards. In 2013 he became Advisor to the Minister of Higher Teacher Education, Scientific Research. Dr. Hmamouchi continuing to do research, to be invited to give plenary lectures at the Congress (Guest Speakers) and also to make expertise.
Dr. Hmamouchi has researched in the following areas: Ethnomedicine, Ethnopharmocology, Agronomy, Phytochemistry, Biological Activity, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Conservation of Medicinal, Phytomedicines, perfumery, culinary herbs, Aromatic plants and Herbal Plants, Crops Marketing & Trade. He headed several departments and agencies for training, research, innovation. He has published more than 100 papers in reputed journals, 4 books and has been serving as an editorial board member and Chief Editor of International Journal (www. AJMAP.org). He received many grants and awards such as the ISESCO, President of the Republic of Tunisia and European Business Innovation (Clusters).
Professor LEUNG Ping Chung, OBE, JP, Hon DSSc, DSC, MBBS, MS, FRACS, FRCS(Edin), FHKCOS, FHKAM(Orth); is Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedics & Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine; Director of Centre for Clinical Trials on Chinese Medicine, Institute of Chinese Medicine; Director, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Osteoporosis Care and Control, The Chinese University of Hong Kong,1996-2013; Director, Partner State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China (The Chinese University of Hong Kong). He is also the Past President of the International Research Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SIROT), 2009-2012. Professor Leung’s research areas including Orthopaedics, Osteoporosis, Microsurgery, Public Health, Traditional Chinese Medicine and General Education. He is also the author of over 800 scientific manuscripts in journals and 27 books. Professor Leung has been appointed as editor of 11 International Journals since 1982. He is trying hard to develop a research methodology basing on modern clinical science requirements, to modernise Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Rusli Ismail completed PharmD at the University of Minnesota in 1983 and joined Universiti Sains Malaysia as a lecturer where he developed TDM and clinical pharmacy. He left USM as Professor and Director at its Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine in 2012 to head the Centre of Excellence in Research in HIV/AIDS at Universiti Malaya. In 2017, Rusli joined UnisZA at its new Faculty of Medicine where he also currently chairs its Human Ethics Committee. He has supervised more than 30 graduate students and published extensively in reputed journals. He helped pioneered the introduction of harm reduction in Malaysia to fight HIV/AIDS.
In research, Rusli started with therapeutic drug monitoring and currently focuses on pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics and personalized medicine especially as they pertain to opiate dependence and HIV/AIDS. He is especially focused on ethnic variations in diseases and pharmacology and has published extensively on the pharmacogenetics of the Malaysian ethnic groups especially on its contributions to pharmacologic variability.
